It is shown that the formalism of nonequilibrium thermodynamics, based on the use of functionals expressing a
certain maximum or minimum principle, for a number of particular problems can be developed regardless of the adequacy of
the interpretation of the concept of "entropy" as applied to systems far from equilibrium. In particular, it was shown that
for non-equilibrium systems, whose behavior is primarily determined by the movement of low-molecular ions, functionals that
perform the same function as thermodynamic ones can be obtained as the first integrals of the equations of motion of these
particles. The advantage of this approach is the elimination of the need to justify the adequacy of the use of the concept of
"entropy". An explicit form of such functionals is obtained. The possibilities of their use for application purposes are discussed
