Демографиялық көрсеткіштердің ішінде халықтың жыныстық-жас құрылымы маңызды орын алады. Әзірбайжан Республикасының астанасы Баку қаласының әлеуметтік-экономикалық дамуының жоғары деңгейі, оның елдің урбанизациясының негізгі орталығы ретіндегі рөлі және басқа факторлар демографиялық процестерге, соның ішінде халықтың жыныстық-жас құрамына тікелей әсер етеді. Практикалық маңызы бар бұл ғылыми зерттеудің негізгі мақсаты 1999-2023 жылдар аралығындағы Баку халқының жыныстық-жас құрылымындағы өзгерістерді, сондай-ақ оның қалыптасуына әсер ететін факторларды зерттеу болып табылады. Халықтың гендерлік құрылымы Баку қаласы бойынша да, оған кіретін әкімшілік аудандар бойынша да статистикалық деректер негізінде талданды. Әзірбайжан Республикасы мен Баку қаласы халқының медианалық жасы да есептелген және салыстырылған. Баку қаласының тұрғындары үшін жасқа тәуелділік коэффициенттері есептелді. Талдау нәтижесінде көптеген жылдар бойы қаладағы халықтың бұзылған гендерлік құрылымы біртіндеп теңестірілгені анықталды. Халықтың жас құрылымында табиғи өсімнің біртіндеп төмендеуіне және орташа өмір сүру ұзақтығының ұлғаюына байланысты 65 жастан асқан халықтың үлес салмағы біртіндеп артады-халықтың қартаюы байқалады. Қалада халықтың орташа жас көрсеткіші артып келеді және ол елдегі көрсеткіштен жоғары болуымен ерекшеленеді. Қаладағы жасына байланысты демографиялық жүктемеге келетін болсақ (зерттелетін кезеңде), жастар арасындағы демографиялық жүктеме төмендейді, ал егде жастағы адамдар арасында артады.
